ODO Up for Adoption

  "ODO"

Follow him thru his life story as a car that brought joy to his owners.

It started on Mothers day 1998, First run was the Twilight Run in San Diego.

His first club was SOCALM (Southern California Miata Club)

His modifications were as follows over the years.

We had Mazda take ODO for testing of the Exhaust system after 72,000 Miles we received a new set of cats and oxygen sensors. The cat was taken off at 72,500 miles and put in storage as a set of Racing Beat headers were installed along with a Brainstorm Dual exhaust system. Then a Racing Beat Style bar II was installed. He had three different Intakes put on and now has a Typhoon intake from K&N. We installed Racing Beats sway bar cross member support and front and rear sway bars. We also installed a Moss motors remote oil filter relocation kit. And added some fog lights.

At 150,000 Miles we did a going over of ODO. After changing the timing belt, cam seals and crank seals, the shifter boot seals on the trans and housing, changed all fluids in trans and differential. We replaced the alternator and plug wires.

At 175,000 miles installed 4-way KYB/AGX shocks all around, new brakes front and rear and an alarm system.

At 179,000 miles (Around 6/12-27/04) ODO got sick, his wipers were going faster than he was. I pulled over and disconnected the battery and had him towed home. We took ODO to a Mazda dealer to have him fixed. Well they changed the wiper switch and hooked up the battery but he would not start? so they put him outside without unhooking the battery. After three weeks I went to see what was taking so long and found him sitting outside! I had him towed home and decided to fix him myself.

I found that the rear bearing had come apart in the alternator and a piece was caught in the brushes. This kept the battery on and did many things to the car. I had to replace the ECU (brain) and some relays, the fuel pump, the alternator, and other electrical parts. With little spare time I would work on him a little at a time, like polishing the intake, I had the interior completely taken out except the evaporator for the A/C as I did not want to loose the charge. I checked all the wiring and could not find anything burned or heated (so the insurance company would not pay for any of the repair parts. (Bummer). I removed the headers and reinstalled the new cat as I knew I would have to get him smogged when I got him running again.

So as the car sat for 3 Years 10 Months, I decided to do a little custom work on him. I added a chrome surround on the shifter, then I removed the center glove box and put the window switches on the end behind the ashtray. I added a couple of chrome rings on the dash. and did some painting that was supposed to simulate a 99 Anniversary but it ended up when I put it all together the blue was a bit lighter 8^). Oh well. I added some carpeting to the center to cover the mounting holes left from the console. I also re-polished up the headlights as seen in one of the Reward's articles I wrote. I added a cool fog light switch and blinking alarm light switch.

In early March of 2008 I finally got ODO running again, (about $2,000.00 later). The battery does not hold a charge, probably from sitting for such a long time? He runs great. My problem now is that we are going to move and we need the money for furniture etc for the new house. so I am going to have to part with my first Miata. I am asking $6,500.00 OBO. for him and I have lots of extra parts to go along with him. A muffler, sill plates, starter, polished aluminum tower brace, Racing Beats red wires (Has blue moss motors wires on now). I have some red and black seat covers, chrome roof latch mounts and a short shifter with a custom boot, and a Miatafun shift knob! He has to be smogged and registered for the street he has a non operation permit now since he has been garaged for the last 3 years 10 Months. He has some like new tires with low miles on them.

I hate to see him go. He is 95% completed as I have not been able to do much lately to check everything out, I know all the lights and windows work, wipers, the radio I guess needs to be unlocked with the security code? I have not had a chance to play with that yet.

Call if you would like to see the car.
