Trip Highlights
- This
event is a trip to Glacier Park and Waterton Parks (Alberta) planned for
departure Friday July 17th and returning late the next Friday July
24th. We plan to take it easy. Most days will have a drive time
less than 8 hours. This also should give us time if we find any side roads
that look interesting. It’s a 3 day drive there, two days in the parks, and
three days to return.
- We
plan to stay at the Bay Shore Inn in Waterton and at the Many Glacier Lodge in
Glacier Park. The Many Glacier Lodge is beautiful, but also old. The only
rooms left are the “Standard” and “Value” rooms with only double and or twin
beds. More experienced folks have advised us that the double beds are
afflicted by gravity and two are united as one in the middle. The cheaper
“Value Rooms” have no view and are on the 5th & 6th floors and the
elevators go only to the 4th Floor.
- The
Park Service reservations system will not let us “block-out” the rooms and
then later, pay for the rooms with a different credit card. For the other
hotels along the way we will try to get a “courtesy block of rooms” when
possible.
- The
return trip is less formal. We will be returning via Canada Hwy. 3 over
Crowsnest Pass and Cranbrook, BC and then down Hwy 95 into Coeur D’Alene
Idaho. Those who want to choose a different way back are of course free to
do so. We plan to stay at Diamond Lake, OR and then swing by Crater Lake.
Those who want to stay and extra day at Crater Lake are also more than welcome
to do so.
- This
trip will be about 2400+ miles, and we estimate the total basic expenditures
to be in the $3000+ range. Depending upon interest, we may try to organize
appetizers and “refreshments” in one of the hotel rooms in lieu of dinner
out. This worked out very well on the last Stewart’s Point run and reduced
costs for all who participated.
- The
six sponsors, Mike and Jenn Sipe, Bob & Terri Bacon, and Pam and Randy Hunt
are planning on going. The trip will be posted on the Samoa site. If you
are interested, call us at 530 – 672 – 8985 or email at
rspjhunt@sbcglobal.net. We will send out details of the trip and lodging
options.
- One
last note, if you are interested, you may want to move fast, some hotels /
lodges are already booking up for these dates.
