This is going to be a relaxing and educational driving tour through the upper desert beginning at the California Route 66 Museum in Victorville. From there we will drive The Mother Road to Barstow.
While driving Route 66 we will be slowing down as we pass sights like the Do Drop Inn. In Barstow we will be stopping at the Barstow Route 66 "Mother Road" Museum located in the historic Casa del
Desierto Harvey House. The Harvey House exterior was renovated and re-opened in 1991 and is a very beautiful building. This will be a busy stop because the Harvey House Building contains both the Mother Road
Museum and the Western America Railroad Museum. We have also arranged a tour of the historic Harvey House. While the interior has not been remodeled yet and is not open to the public, we will be able to see
and get an idea of how it functioned during its heyday beginning with it’s opening in 1911.
All museums are free, but they do accept donations.
The tour will officially end at Peggy Sue’s 50’s Diner for a late lunch. We have a room reserved for us. After the tour you can drive back home on 66 the way we came or get on the 15. But if you still
want to do some exploring, the town of Daggett on Route 66 is only 3 miles away. Calico Ghost Town is only 5 miles from Peggy Sue’s. So, if you haven’t been there it is highly recommended. Ask for your
AAA discount and get $1 off admission.
Directions
: Exit I-15 on D Street in Victorville. The museum is located between 5th and 6th streets. Park across the street at the transportation center.
Don't miss the KICKS on Route 66.
Get your dice and fox tails out of the closet! Still have that Beaver Coat? Saddle shoes? Roll up you blue jeans! We are going cruising.
