Chuck Richard's White Water Rafting
http://www.kernvalley.com/fallingwaters/goto.html
has full or half day events all of which include lunch. (Ten miles of white
water rafting on the Upper Kern) $140 for full day (two trips down the river);
$120 for half day (one trip down the river). If the members wish to go white
water rafting, early June is the high season with rapids galore. With 25 or more
reservations, there is a 10% discount on the rafting rates. I recommend we start
late Friday afternoon to be up there for a full day of rafting or sight seeing
on Saturday with the return date on Sunday. The Kernville Inn will reserve a
block of 26 rooms for that weekend with a 10% discount from their regular rates
for the club. It has no more than 26 rooms. Their rooms and rates are from
$49.00 to $84.00 per night and can be seen at http://www.kernvilleinn.com/.
Mention you are with the SOCALM group when you register for the 10% discount on
the rooms. We would start at Valencia at one of the usual places off I-5, make
our way up Bouquet Canyon, past Willow Springs, drive through the valley of
giant windmills in Tehachapi and take the very twisty road which switchbacks and
climbs approximately 3000 ft up the face of a mountain into Lake Isabella. A
leisurely drive along side the Kern River brings us to Kernville. Kernville Inn
is near the river. If you are interested in this trip, make your reservations at
the motel and the rafting company early. The rafting season is only a short
period of time and everyone wants to be there between Memorial Day and July 4th
of each year. If we do not make enough early reservations, the motel will open
their reservations to the public as it is almost certain it would be fully
booked during that season. The return route is Highway 178 alongside the rushing
waters of the Kern River into Bakersfield where the members can catch I-5 back
into Los Angeles.
