Featured Miata

Tony Martone
Tom, I am a member of the San Diego Miata Club.

It all started 2 years ago when I was looking for an economical vehicle. I reside both in San Diego and Twenty-nine Palms where I work. No jokes please.
So I commute on the weekends and come home to SD. Anyhow, I went out to Arizona to visit a friend of mine and he had a 92 Miata. He let me drive it and after that I had to have one, I think it was the
'Zoom-Zoom' that did me in. So I came back to sunny California and found my first Miata, a Black 94 M-Edition, with 68,000 miles on it. That was two years ago this August and 43,000 more miles on the odometer.
Now for the rest of the story. One sunny day Linda [my permanent passenger, I love her, but she is no navigator] and I put the top down and took a ride out to Julian. I loved driving on those winding roads, and
after we got there we were walking around and I said to her " the ride up here was really nice, wouldn't it be great if we could get several Miata's together and take a ride up here". No sooner did I
say that...and here comes about 20 to 25 Miata's. I ran out to one of the vehicles and asked if this was a club and they said yes and gave me a recruiting card, and we joined in Dec 01.
There's more to this story. Before we joined, I was looking for a newer car; I wanted a 99 Anniversary Edition. One day we were in a gas station and this burgundy colored Miata pulled into the gas
station....I loved the color, and I said, "I have got to get me one of those". I found out it was a 2000 SE, and I started searching the net. I found one in San Francisco, and the owner guaranteed the
condition, and on November 26th, 2001, Linda and I flew up to SF and bought our baby, a 2000 SE Mahogany with a hard top. We then had a wonderful drive home down the coast on route 1. And then there were two,
the new baby and the old 94. And ever since then, we have been enjoying as many meetings and events as my long distance working conditions will allow
.
